dc.descriptionThe defense of human rights at the international level involves the analysis of various concepts, such as genocide and crimes against humanity, that are drawn from disciplines like international criminal law. The Inter - American syste m of human rights has not been immune to this phenomenon because of the atrocious acts that took place in the 1970s and 1980s in Central and South America. The case of Guatemala is revealing of the human rights violations that indigenous communities have s uffered in the context of domestic armed conflict. A clear example of this is the case of the Río Negro massacres analyzed here through an amicus brief filed with the Inter - American Court of Human Rights.en-US
dc.descriptionLa defensa de los derechos humanos a nivel internacional implica el análisis de conceptos provenientes de disciplinas como el derecho penal internacional, tales como el genocidio y los crímenes de lesa humanidad. El Sistema Interamericano de Protección de los Derechos Humanos no ha sido ajeno a este fenómeno debido a los atroces actos ocurridos en las décadas de los setenta y ochenta en Centroamérica y Suramérica. El caso de Guatemala es revelador frente a las violaciones a los derechos humanos de las comunidades indígenas en el marco de un conflicto armado interno no internacional. Un claro ejemplo es el caso de las masacres de Río Negro que aquí se analiza mediante un amicus curiae presentado ante la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos.es-ES
