dc.description.abstractA pesar del surgimiento de muchos emprendimientos, menos de la mitad logran sostenerse exitosamente en el tiempo (Antonakis y Autio, 2006). En el caso de las empresas familiares, el fundador además de afrontar el reto de consolidar su empresa a lo largo de los años, tiene el desafío de lograr que sobreviva al relevo generacional; tan sólo tres de cada diez empresas familiares logran subsistir a la segunda generación y sólo una a la tercera (Davis y Harveston, 1998, Handler, 1990, Sonnenfeld, 1998, Ward, 1997 citados en Miller et al., 2003; Ward, 1987, citado en Poza 2010; Lansberg, 1999, Leach, 2011, citados en Hnátek, 2015). Debido a lo anterior, resulta valioso el caso de Construcciones Palacios, cuya trayectoria empresarial a cargo del fundador Colombiano Víctor Palacios alcanzó medio siglo y logró con éxito el relevo a la segunda generación, con sus hijos Lina María y Víctor Manuel. Este caso permite analizar la convergencia del emprendimiento y del liderazgo para visualizar, resolver y direccionar las diferentes situaciones que Víctor Palacios enfrentó como empresario. Adicionalmente permite analizar los factores que permiten que una sucesión familiar sea exitosa.
dc.description.abstractengDespite the emergence of numerous entrepreneurships, less than half of them manage to successfully sustain over time (Antonakis y Autio, 2006). In the case of a family business, the founder not only faces the challenge of consolidating the business over the years, but also has the challenge to achieve the family succession without disrupting the business; only three out of ten family businesses survive to the second generation and one to the third one (Davis y Harveston, 1998, Handler, 1990, Sonnenfeld, 1998, Ward, 1997, mentioned in Miller et al., 2003;Ward, 1987 mentioned in Poza 2010; Lansberg, 1999, Leach, 2011, mentioned in Hnátek, 2015). For these reasons, it’s worth the case of Construcciones Palacios, whose business trajectory led by the 12 Colombian founder Víctor Palacios, reached half a century and successfully achieved the succession to the second generation represented by her daughter Lina María and his son Víctor Manuel. The case also allows the analysis of the convergence between entrepreneurship and leadership to visualize, solve and manage the different situations that the protagonist had to face as an entrepreneur. Additionally, it allows the analysis of the factors that contribute with a successful family succession plan.
