dc.description.abstractTransitioning business operations to the cloud has resulted in cost efficiency outcomes that are below what was initially promised by the pay-as-you-go cloud computing financial model, a phenomenon that is currently demanding the adoption of a new finance-based mindset by Software Architects in order to become frugal architects who design cost efficient architectures in the cloud, treating costs as a crucial non-functional requirement. Therefore, FinOps has been conceived as a new cultural practice and operational model for Finance, Business, and IT personas to be conscious of the cost efficiency and the profitability of any architectural and infrastructural decisión they make to operate and evolve services on the cloud. In particular, IT departments have needed to perform cloud migrations by re-architecting their software systems using the microservices architectural style to take advantage of the cloud benefits ; this style is also being recently aligned with MACH architectures (Microservices, API-First, Cloud Native, and Headless), which allows users to address business challenges by developing solutions using best in-class services and technologies in a cost-effective and efficient manner. Furthermore, gRPC has played a crucial role in building the interaction among microservices, taking advantage of the HTTP/2 protocol and its resiliency, reliability, and security tactics; all of these non-functional requirements are considered crucial for those kinds of services. Hence, this thesis offers an end to-end integration model for software architects to calculate the cost efficiency of their architectural design decisions over gRPC-based microservices operating on the Amazon Web Services cloud, so that they have a supportive tool in their path of becoming frugal architects.eng
